How it works
To add VAT, apply the selected percentage to the net price. To remove VAT correctly, divide the gross price by one plus the decimal VAT rate.
A worked example
At an illustrative rate of 20%, a net price of 100 has 20 of VAT and a gross price of 120. To remove VAT from 120, divide by 1.20. Subtracting 20% from 120 would give the wrong answer.
Before you use the result
The 20% default is an illustration, not a recommended tax rate. This tool cannot determine tax liability, exemptions, reverse charge, or deductibility. Confirm the appropriate rate and rounding rules with your tax authority.
Keep inputs on a consistent basis. Use the same currency and time period, and check whether your amounts include tax. Calculations use full precision internally; displayed monetary values are rounded to two decimals.
